Week 1: Foundational Skills: Communication and Problem-Solving and Core Skills - Personal Care Aide
Orientation to training, role of HHA, respecting differences & culture
Communication skills & problem solving techniques, orientation to home care, infection control
Body mechanics & working with elders, assisting with self-administered medications
Safety and emergency, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs)
Work with clients with physical disabilities and assisting with instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs)
Week 2: Core Skills - Personal Care Aide and Expanded Skills of the Home Health Aide
Knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to carry out the responsibilities of a HHA to assist clients with health-related tasks
Complex modified diets, vital signs, prescribed exercises & prescribed medical equipment
Skin and wound care, dressing changes, and ostomy care
Limitations of a home health aide
Hospice, death and dying
