Broward-Miami Health Institute is an authorized American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center. BLS Instructor Cards issued through BMHI are fully recognized by hospitals, health systems, and healthcare employers nationwide.
The AHA CPR/BLS Instructor Course at Broward-Miami Health Institute is a train-the-trainer program for experienced healthcare providers who want to teach AHA BLS courses independently. This is the only BMHI program where the goal is not a provider certification — it is becoming an educator authorized to train others.
The 8-hour in-person classroom session focuses on the pedagogical and administrative skills required to facilitate AHA BLS courses: instructional technique using AHA's ILT and blended-learning formats, objective skills evaluation, classroom management, and navigation of AHA program administration including course paperwork and card issuance.
Certification is a two-phase process. After completing the in-person session, candidates must be monitored teaching their first BLS class by a Training Center Faculty member. The AHA BLS Instructor Card — valid for two years — is issued only upon successful completion of both phases.
