Upon completion, graduates are eligible to sit for two nationally recognized certifications:
The Patient Care Technician Program at Broward-Miami Health Institute is a 600-hour certification program in Miramar, FL. It trains students to perform direct patient care across nursing assistant, phlebotomy, and EKG technician functions — making it one of the broadest clinical skills programs available at the entry level.
The curriculum covers anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, nursing assistant skills, phlebotomy theory and lab, electrocardiography, CPR and First Aid, OSHA and infection control, HIV/AIDS and blood-borne pathogens, and clinical practicum rotations. Students complete 116 lab hours and 150 clinical hours across the 600-hour program.
Upon completion, graduates are eligible to sit for the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) state licensing exam and the Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) examination with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

PCT graduates can pursue three distinct career tracks — as a Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomist, or EKG Technician — giving you flexibility to specialize or combine roles based on the employer and setting. This breadth of clinical skills makes PCTs highly sought after in hospital and multi-specialty settings where versatility is valued.
In Florida, demand for direct patient care roles is consistently strong, supported by a large senior population, an expanding network of hospitals and outpatient facilities, and ongoing growth in home health and long-term care.
